Photography Courses

With the exception of medium- and large-format photography, analog processes appear to be dead. Nikon and Canon have stopped producing new models of 35mm film cameras—Nikon in early 2006 and Canon in 2004—and these companies have also stopped production on a number of film-related technologies, like enlarging lenses. Nikon has even stated in a press release that they have stopped manufacturing new film technologies, and will cease sale when stock runs out. If this is the case, why do college and university courses continue to teach analog film development and other film-related courses?

Film is dead, long live digital!

North Island College has an excellent photography course, with emphasis on practical business application. I'm looking seriously at this course—if I can manage to get a scholarship or grant. UVic appears to have no photography course at all other than a fine arts degree, and BCIT doesn't seem to count photography as technology. Ah well.

After scrounging around on Google, I'm also interested in the Langara Certificate Photography program. I'll have to hunt around some more, though.

花鳥風月

We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;

For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man person perish, yet the inward man person is renewed day by day.

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

— 2 Corinthians 4
