A Quick Comparison

When I first purchased my PS3 I compared the costs of the box and the XBox 360. After upgrades to bring the machines to parity (equal features) they cost the same. It's been quite some time since then and I decided to do another comparison of prices. All prices listed in USD.

The 360 is underpowered, indeed. Halo 3 brings alot to the table, easily enough to carry a game, but hardly an entire system. Turrets, gadgets, new grenade types, four-player co-op, more anti-Scarab warfare, level-editor, free-camera replay with screenshots, and the Gravity Hammer (it is loev); these are points that really make the game a buyer, which is unfortunate for someone who doesn't want to buy a 360. Mass Effect was pretty good, but the tech abilities were a bit of a letdown - far too many grenade effects without much special function... But you weren't looking for reviews, were you? At any rate, both can probably be mooched off a friend's system within a month (I'm CERTAIN you know someone who owns them), when they'll have beaten both to death. SPOILER: the Protheans die.

I've already played and beaten each game several times. I played Halo 3 basically the day it came out; I crashed at a friend's and we played through Ledgendary on co-op. (If you're going to play a game, why waste time on anything but the most difficult mode?) And I had a lot of fun on Mass Effect playing twice through with the same character, the first time being quite neutral/good in my responses, the other, being very, very evil. And yes, the Protheans die.

We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;

For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man person perish, yet the inward man person is renewed day by day.

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
